Jefferson County Library dedicated the Genealogy & Local History Room at the Northwest Branch Library in High Ridge in honor of the late Della Mae (Luster) Lang July 8.
Starting at 11 a.m. there was a small ceremony during which a memorial resolution was presented to the Lang family from the Missouri House of Representatives.
Lang, who passed away on March 22 at the age of 84, was a long-time Jefferson County resident, well known in the community, and a noted local historian and genealogist who published many books about the history and people of the Highway 30 communities.
Lang was a founding member of the High Ridge Community Library, which was established in 1978 and continued under her leadership until 1990.
She was also a passionate advocate for a tax-supported public library in Jefferson County and devoted years to that goal, which was accomplished when the Jefferson County Library was established in northern Jefferson County by a vote of the people in 1989.
The Community Library closed in 1991 and the new Northwest Branch of the Jefferson County Library opened in June 1992. The Community Library volunteers became the nucleus of the Friends of the Northwest Branch Library, and continue to support the work of the library through their fundraising activities.
Lang was also a founding member of the Northwest Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, and a staff writer and editor for several local newspapers. She was active in the Jefferson County Historical Society and a lifetime honorary member of the Jefferson County Genealogical Society. Her research publications form the core of the library’s current Genealogy & Local History Collection.
Immediately following the dedication, the Friends of the Northwest Branch Library hosted a reception for family and friends.
